Wood-erful: The Magic of the Woods
The woods are old. They don’t ask us to enter. They don’t need us. But we come, drawn by something deeper than reason. Something we can’t name. The trees stand silent, their roots burrowed deep into the earth. The birds call, the leaves rustle, the air smells of pine and earth. It is the smell of life, of something bigger than us.
The woods don’t speak in words. They speak in the rustle of leaves and the call of the owl. They are not concerned with time. The oak stands for centuries, its bark thick with age. The wildflowers bloom and fade, each petal a fleeting moment. The deer move in shadows, the squirrels dart and play. They live without care for us, yet we feel their presence. The woods are a place of life, of constant movement, and stillness all at once.
We step into the woods, and everything changes. The noise of the world falls away. The air thickens. Our breath slows. The woods are not a place to run to. They are a place to be, to stop, to breathe. In their silence, we find peace. In their stillness, we find motion.
There is power here. Power in the trees that give oxygen, in the earth that holds them steady. Power in the roots that grip the soil, the canopy that shields the sky. The woods are not weak. They are as strong as time itself. The trees exhale life into the air we breathe, and in return, they ask for nothing. The wood they give sustains us. It builds our homes, heats our fires. It keeps us warm. The forest doesn’t need us. It survives, and it survives well.
But it is not invincible. The woods feel the burn of fire, the bite of the axe, the pull of the chainsaw. They feel the weight of our recklessness. They are not ours to take. They are ours to protect, to respect. Without them, we are nothing. Without them, we don’t breathe.
The woods have always been here. They will remain long after we are gone. But we must care for them. We must protect them as they have protected us. They will not wait forever. They have no mercy for those who ignore their power.
The woods are not a place to conquer. They are a place to know, to witness, to understand. They are here, and we are here with them. For now. And in that, there is strength.
